Here’s what can happen when you’re Role Ready…

by Jessie

Admittedly, stories like this one don’t come along every day, but when they do, I think they inspire us all!

This week I had the opportunity to work with a fantastic young man who is so motivated to reach his career goals, but needed some help to take the next step toward his dream job. A trade qualified Fitter and Turner, he was eager to make the move from a role as a Maintenance Technician in a large-scale production facility to the oil rigs. Jack* met all the criteria in the job advertisement and came with a resume that he had drafted himself – but he needed Role Ready to sell all his qualifications, skills and experience in a way that targeted this job specifically and a coverletter that helped his enthusiasm to shine.

The other aspect of Jack’s application was timing. As we always mention to our clients, the best chance you can ever give yourself is to be on the top of the heap – meaning that you have your coverletter and your resume ready to go and your eye on the relevant job websites, so that as soon as that job is posted, you are hitting the APPLY NOW button. You can have the greatest resume in the world, but if you’re not getting seen, then all that time and cost can be wasted. We suggest the first 24-48hrs will give you best window of opportunity. In the current job market, the sheer volume of applicants within the first 3-5 days can be staggering.

By sheer coincidence, the job Jack wanted to apply for had only been posted the day before, so within that 48hr window, his resume and letter were ready to go. On Tuesday morning his application was submitted, by lunch time he’d had a phone interview and by 5pm he was calling me to tell me he’d been offered the job.

Wow. Like I said, that doesn’t happen every day, but it did this week, and it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving future rig crew member! It’s what can happen when you’re Role Ready.
